Katie Woznicki (Kejti Voznicki, KatWoz) is a multi-disciplinary American outsider artist who has been living in Belgrade, Serbia since 2007.
Her drawings and paintings are both beautiful and grotesque, often featuring dark themes and vibrant colors.
Her musical projects are Dodola (singer-songwriter trip-hop / turbo indie-folk), MC Kopy Kat (trash-hop), and EPP! (post-dystopian micro-pop).
She is an active member of the Art Brut Serbia association, which is dedicated to outsider and naive artists, and is a former member of the Matrijaršija art collective.

Katie is American and is now a permanently naturalized foreigner in the Republic of Serbia. She has mostly Croatian, Polish, and German heritage.
Did Katie Woznicki study art?
Katie studied general linguistics and South Slavic languages (including Serbo-Croatian) at Ohio State in Columbus, Ohio, and graduated summa cum laude, with honors, and with distinction. Although she did take some art classes in high school and she worked with a music teacher in Belgrade, she did not formally study art or music.
Why and how did Katie Woznicki end up in Serbia?
Upon obtaining her degree and realizing that doctoral studies in linguistics and South Slavic languages were not for her, she experienced a psychological break. Not knowing what to do next, she decided to spend a year or two in Serbia to learn the language better, and ended up staying.
But why did she study Serbian?
One very important figure in young Katie’s life was a woman from Slovenia, and she always wanted to learn the language. Ohio State did not offer Slovenian, but Serbo-Croatian was the closest thing. She ended up speaking the Serbian version because her teacher was from Serbia.
How did Katie Woznicki start making art in Serbia?
A string of coincidences brought Katie to the very center of the Serbian alternative comix and art scene. She started drawing almost immediately and became obsessed, and began making music shortly after.
Does Katie Woznicki speak Serbian?
Yes, at this point she speaks Serbian very well. Due to her accent, people often think she is from Užice or Gornji Milanovac.
Why does Katie Woznicki make art?
Art is a healing, spiritual practice for Katie that began as a way to reassemble her deeply fractured self. Today she is doing much better, but she still enjoys the trance-like state that creation brings and is fully dedicated to the search for Truth.
